Welcome back to the sports desk—your ringside recap of a wild week from Japan to Louisville.

Headlines

  • Gurv Sihra suffers collapsed lung: Former WWE star and Bollywood Boyz member Gurv Sihra revealed he sustained a collapsed right lung during a Pure Power Wrestling tag title bout in Lethbridge, Alberta. He finished the match but later struggled to breathe backstage, with hospital scans confirming the injury. Doctors told him he was “very lucky to be alive,” and he’s now focused on recovery “one breath, one day, and one step at a time.”
  • Yota Tsuji wants NJPW–AEW on equal footing: IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji used his Road to Destruction comments and Destruction in Kobe press conference to say he wants to “work on establishing an equal relationship with AEW,” aiming to spread pro wrestling across Asia while making sure NJPW isn’t the junior partner in the alliance.
  • Former AEW Women’s World Champion frustrated by lack of TV time: Nyla Rose, still under AEW contract and active on the indies, admitted in a recent interview that being off AEW television since late 2024 is “a little hard” and “a little frustrating,” saying she wants more chances to entertain fans while still cheering on stories like Mercedes Moné’s title run and Willow Nightingale’s rise.

Gordon’s breakdown – Results since Sept. 15, 2026

15.09.2026 – Road To Destruction 2026 Tag 5 (Hokuto City General Gymnasium) REVIEW

  • House of Torture momentum: Dick Togo & Shun Skywalker beat Master Wato & Yushin Hatazawa. DOUKI & SHO toppled El Desperado & Taisei Nakahara, keeping the group’s dark cloud over the junior scene.
  • United Empire vs. Unbound Co.: Great-O-Khan, HENARE, Jake Lee & Jakob Austin Young defeated Jado, Oleg Boltin, Ryusuke Taguchi & Shota Umino. Later, Jeff Cobb & Shingo Takagi struck back for Unbound Co. against Callum Newman & Zane Jay.
  • Wolf pack on the rise: Aaron Wolf, Taichi & Yuya Uemura continued to bloody TMDK’s nose, beating Hartley Jackson, Kosei Fujita & Ryohei Oiwa.
  • Heavy-hitting trios: Unbound Co. (Daiki Nagai, OSKAR & Yuto-Ice) beat Most Violent Players (Makabe & Yano) & Masatora Yasuda, before Goto Revolutionary Army (Goto, Matsumoto, YOH & YOSHI-HASHI) closed the night by defeating Gedo, Robbie X, Taiji Ishimori & Yota Tsuji.

16–22.09.2026 – Road To Destruction 6–10 & TAKE OFF!

Across Tomakomai, Asahikawa, Chitose, Muroran, Kitami, and Obihiro:

  • House of Torture keeps spoiling the party: Togo, Skywalker, DOUKI & SHO repeatedly knocked off combinations of Masatora Yasuda, Taguchi, Wato, Hatazawa, El Desperado and Taisei Nakahara—often by dubious means, including a DQ win over Desperado, Mistico & Shota Umino on Tag 10.
  • United Empire vs. Unbound Co. – ongoing turf war: Great-O-Khan, HENARE, Jake Lee, Jakob Austin Young, Callum Newman & Zane Jay traded wins with Unbound Co. units featuring Gedo, Jeff Cobb, OSKAR, Shingo Takagi, Robbie X, Taiji Ishimori & Yota Tsuji. The Empire took key multi-man tags on Tag 7, 8, 9 and 10, while Unbound Co. answered back with victories like Cobb & Shingo over Newman & Zane Jay and a big eight-man win over the Empire on Tag 9.
  • Goto Revolutionary Army holding steady: Hirooki Goto’s squad—Matsumoto, YOH, YOSHI-HASHI—picked up multiple wins over Unbound Co. lineups, reinforcing Goto’s claim to an IWGP title shot at Destruction in Kobe.
  • Knockout Brothers earn a shot: On Tag 8, OSKAR & Yuto-Ice beat Most Violent Players to become number one contenders for the IWGP Tag Team Titles in a grueling bout that went over half an hour.
  • Aaron Wolf & Yuya Uemura’s quiet surge: Wolf, Taichi & Uemura consistently defeated TMDK trios across multiple stops, quietly building a case as one of the tour’s most reliable units.
  • Special airport showcase – Pro-Wrestling TAKE OFF! from New Chitose Airport: Most Violent Players, Masatora Yasuda & Shota Umino beat an Unbound Co. quartet; Wolf, Taichi & Uemura once again bested TMDK; and Unbound Co. (Robbie X, Shingo, Ishimori & Tsuji) downed Goto’s army in a high-energy main event set in the middle of the airport concourse.

Mina Shirakawa – Spotlight at the sports desk

Gordon’s profile

“Mina Shirakawa is the bridge between the Japanese joshi scene and the global television era—a late starter who’s sprinted past expectations.”

  • Background & stats: Born December 26, 1987, in Tokyo, Mina stands around 157 cm (5’2″) and weighs about 54 kg (119 lb). She studied English and American literature at Aoyama Gakuin University and worked as a wedding planner, gravure model and tarento before entering wrestling.
  • Career path: Debuted in 2018 after training with Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling, then rose to prominence in Stardom—winning the Wonder of Stardom, Goddesses of Stardom, Artist of Stardom and Future of Stardom titles, and founding Cosmic Angels before leading Club Venus/Empress Nexus Venus.
  • Global expansion: Today she’s signed to AEW, appears for NJPW and ROH, and has held the interim ROH Women’s World Television Title and RevPro British Women’s Championship, while working high-profile matches against names like Mercedes Moné.

Ed’s final word

“She’s proof that charisma, grit, and timing can rewrite a career at 30-plus. As NJPW and AEW try to balance their relationship, Mina stands right in the middle of that crossroads—one of the faces who makes this era feel bigger, brighter, and a lot more unpredictable.”

⭐ Closing Segment — Ed & Gordon at the Sports Desk

Ed: “Partner, when you look across everything we covered tonight — from New Japan’s faction firefights to OVW’s grind-it-out title races — you can feel how alive the wrestling world is right now. Every promotion we touched is moving, shifting, building toward something bigger.”

Gordon: “And that’s the beauty of weeks like this. You see veterans holding their ground, prospects clawing for daylight, and entire divisions reshaping themselves in real time. New Japan’s Road to Destruction is tightening the screws, OVW’s Fight Night fallout is still echoing, and the headlines outside the ring remind us how unpredictable this sport can be.”

Ed: “Momentum changes fast. One injury, one upset, one breakout performance — and suddenly the whole landscape tilts. But that’s why we’re here at the sports desk: to track every twist, every surprise, every name stepping forward.”

Gordon: “So as we wrap up, keep your eyes on the ones making noise — the ones refusing to wait their turn. Because next week, the stories we’re talking about tonight might look completely different.”

Ed: “And that’s the fun of it. We’ll be right back here at the sports desk to break it all down. Until then — stay sharp, stay curious, and stay tuned.”

Opening from the sports desk

Ed: “Fans, welcome back to the sports desk. AEW’s been running hot —Dynamite in Norfolk rolled straight into Collision, title defenses, and a lot of chatter around the wider wrestling world. Before we get into Collision and the week’s results, let’s hit the headlines that framed everything.”

Headlines

Jake Hager’s emergency eye surgery

Jake Hager underwent emergency eye surgery after suffering damage during a Power Slap event. Doctors found a detached retina and other issues that required immediate attention, and he’s now in recovery with his in‑ring future uncertain while he focuses on healing.

Rob Conway praised by Vince McMahon

Rob Conway recalled a moment in WWE when Vince McMahon told him he was “the most underrated guy on the roster,” praising his reliability and professionalism. Conway said that kind of feedback meant a lot, even if it didn’t always translate into a sustained top‑card push.

Jim Ross’ mixed feelings on Sami Zayn as world champion

Jim Ross admitted he has mixed feelings about Sami Zayn winning a WWE world title—respecting Zayn’s talent and connection with fans, but questioning whether the company will fully commit to him as a long‑term top guy. He framed it as a case where the audience clearly believes, but the booking history makes him cautious.

Gordon: “Health scares, old‑school praise, and questions about how far a fan favorite can really go—that’s the backdrop for AEW’s week.”

Scott: Mr. Conway is one of my favorites from my time writing for NWAringside.com, at the time the official website of the National Wrestling Alliance where Mr. Conway was one of the best Worlds Champions, often touring as champ with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

AEW — sports desk rundown

AEW Collision — September 19, 2026

National Championship: Andrade El Ídolo (c) vs. Daniel Garcia

Result: Andrade retains

Ed: “This was all about whether Garcia could turn his recent momentum into gold.”

Garcia targeted Andrade’s leg and neck, chaining submissions and suplexes, while Andrade leaned on counters, rope‑running, and his trademark double‑knees. Late in the match, Garcia nearly stole it with a sharpshooter and a dragon screw combo, but Andrade escaped, hit his running double knees in the corner, and finished with a hammerlock DDT to keep the National Title.

Gordon: “Garcia looked like he belonged in that spot. Andrade, though, is in that champion groove where he can absorb a lot and still close the show.”

Thekla vs. Zayda Steel

Result: Thekla wins, earns a shot at Mercedes Moné

Thekla and Zayda fought for the right to challenge Mercedes Moné at WrestleDream. Zayda tried to slow things down with strikes and grinding offense; Thekla answered with speed, rope‑assisted attacks, and submissions. The finish saw Thekla counter a big swing from Zayda into a modified crossface, forcing the tap and punching her ticket to face Moné once The CEO is cleared.

Tag and trios action

Collision filled out with multi‑man matches and tags:

  • A showcase trios bout featuring New Level shaking off the previous Dynamite ambush and reasserting themselves.
  • A hard‑hitting tag match with The Dogs continuing their rise in the mid‑card, leaning on brawling and double‑team offense.

Results kept the All Out build intact—no shock title changes, but plenty of momentum shifts.

AEW news & rumors

Ed: “Beyond the bell, here’s the chatter around AEW’s orbit.”

  • Ospreay and Moxley’s build: Their rivalry continues to anchor TV—promos, stare‑downs, and multi‑man tags all pointing toward a high‑pressure All Out main event.
  • New Level’s growing presence: Swerve, Kofi, and Austin Creed are being framed as a long‑term trio project, with their theme, presentation, and challengers all getting significant TV time.
  • Women’s division focus: Thekla’s win and Mercedes Moné’s recovery keep the upper card of the women’s division in motion, with Willow Nightingale and others hovering around the title picture.

Gordon: “AEW’s week is less about surprise twists and more about tightening the screws on stories they’ve already set in motion.”

Closing segment — the July 11, 2011 RAW promo (CM Punk & John Cena, “pipe bomb”)

Ed: “Let’s close by stepping back into one of the most famous promos of the modern era—the night the word ‘pipe bomb’ became part of wrestling’s vocabulary.”

On July 11, 2011, CM Punk sat cross‑legged on the RAW stage and cut a promo that blurred the line between storyline and reality—calling out WWE management, criticizing how talent was used, and framing himself as the outsider who knew exactly how the machine worked. At one point he said:

“In anybody else’s hands, this is just a microphone. In my hands, it’s a pipe bomb.”

John Cena was the champion and the company’s standard‑bearer, and Punk’s words turned their match into more than a title bout—it became a referendum on who really represented the future of wrestling. The promo’s legacy is that it opened the door for more meta, self‑aware storytelling and showed how powerful a single, well‑aimed monologue could be.

Gordon: “It’s the kind of moment that still echoes through how fans talk about wrestling today—every time someone grabs a mic and starts blurring those lines, you can feel the shadow of that pipe bomb.”

Ed: “And that’s your week from the sports desk—AEW’s Collision, the headlines around Hager, Conway, and Zayn, and a look back at the promo that changed how a lot of people hear a microphone in this business.”

Opening from the sports desk

Ed: “Fans, welcome back to the sports desk. This time we’re looking at two very different corners of the wrestling world—Major League Wrestling and Women Of Wrestling—both grinding away with TV, streaming, and live dates. Before we get into Fusion and WOW Superheroes, let’s start with the headlines that set the tone for the week.”

Headlines

Kevin Knight and his dream of working in AEW

Kevin Knight said that getting to work in AEW feels like a “dream come true.” He talked about watching the company from the outside, wanting to be part of that environment, and now feeling like he’s finally on the stage he’d been chasing—sharing rings with people he grew up studying and proving he belongs at that level.

Kevin Knight on AEW/WWE tribalism

Knight also addressed the “tribalism” between AEW and WWE fans, saying he doesn’t see the point in picking sides when the real win is that there’s more wrestling for everyone. He emphasized how important it is for Black talent to support each other across promotions, not get dragged into fan wars, and focus on lifting each other up wherever they’re working.

Bully Ray on Motor City Machine Guns and Team 3D breaking up

Bully Ray explained that the feud with the Motor City Machine Guns was a major catalyst for the Team 3D breakup storyline. He said working with Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin pushed him and D‑Von to rethink what they were doing, and that the creative tension and chemistry in that program helped lead to the angle where Team 3D split, giving all four guys more room to grow as singles and as characters.

Gordon: “Dreams realized, tribal lines questioned, and a legendary team reshaped by a rivalry—that’s the backdrop for MLW and WOW this week.”

Major League Wrestling (MLW)

Ed: “Let’s start with MLW, where Fusion remains the flagship and the promotion leans hard into factions, title fights, and hybrid styles.”

MLW Fusion — September 17, 2026 (weekly TV)

⭐ MLW Fusion — Tubi Premiere

Opera Cup begins, a major MLW debut lands, and Stardom’s H.A.T.E. makes a violent statement.

🎭 Opera Cup Opening Round: Austin Aries def. Tracy Williams

The show kicked off with the National Openweight Champion stepping into the spotlight and reminding the audience he’s not a nostalgia act — he’s still very much in the fight. Aries told the crowd that people talk about him like he’s yesterday’s news, and he’s out to prove otherwise by taking the Opera Cup on top of everything else he’s already done.

Williams pushed him hard, trapping Aries in multiple submissions and drilling him with a turnbuckle DDT variation. Aries escaped the STF by biting Williams’ arm, knocked him to the floor with a neckbreaker, and finished the match with a corner dropkick into a brainbuster. The Openweight Title wasn’t at stake.

🌏 The Good Brothers Check In From Sri Lanka

A taped message from Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows showed the MLW World Tag Team Champions defending their belts overseas. Anderson also hyped CJ Gallows’ upcoming MLW singles debut, saying fans won’t have to wait long to see him in action.

🎭 Opera Cup Opening Round: Odyssey Jones def. Okumura

Odyssey Jones made his MLW debut in his hometown, facing Contra Unit’s Okumura with Ikuro Kwon lurking at ringside. Commentary emphasized Jones’ size and the company’s renewed focus on super heavyweights.

Okumura nearly stole the match with a Koji Cutter, but Jones crushed him with a splash to advance. Afterward, Jones told Rich Bocchini that New York was his house and this tournament was his to win.

🔥 MLW Women’s World Champion Shotzi Blackheart Ambushed by H.A.T.E.

Shotzi sat down for an interview about the growing list of challengers circling her title. Before she could finish, Stardom’s Saya Kamitani and Rina — representing H.A.T.E. — stormed in and attacked her, with Kamitani whipping the champion.

Shotzi’s mindset before the ambush: “When everything around you feels like it’s falling apart, you sit down, keep your circle tight, pick your drink carefully, and enjoy the chaos.”

📞 Killer Kross Calls Josh Bishop

MLW World Heavyweight Champion Killer Kross was shown on the phone with Josh Bishop discussing MLW’s idea to pair them against Mistico and Aries at Fightland. Kross joked that his neck still hurts from being chokeslammed repeatedly. Bishop agreed to team up and suggested setting their opponents on fire — Kross reminded him that the match isn’t no‑DQ.

🎭 Opera Cup Opening Round: Trevor Lee def. Mistico (Count‑Out)

Trevor Lee, the Southern Crown Champion, went nearly the full 20‑minute limit with Mistico, who was chasing a third straight Opera Cup victory. Both men unloaded their arsenals — Lee with a sliding forearm, backbreaker, and German suplex; Mistico with a suicide dive, mid‑air hurricanrana reversal, Spanish fly, and rapid‑fire kicks.

Late in the match, a masked figure appeared at ringside. Commentary identified him as Austin Aries wearing Mistico’s stolen mask. As Mistico climbed the ropes, Aries yanked the referee out of the ring and dropped Mistico with a brainbuster on the floor. The official counted Mistico out.

Lee clearly didn’t want to advance that way, but he moves on to face Aries in the next round.

Aries grabbed a mic afterward: “Mistico won’t be taking the Opera Cup this year. That leaves one man to finish the job — Austin Aries.”

Mistico and Aries are still scheduled to team at Fightland against Kross and Bishop.

🎭 Opera Cup Bracket Update

Advancing so far:

  • Diego Hill
  • LeBron Cozone
  • Austin Aries
  • Odyssey Jones
  • Trevor Lee

Aries vs. Lee is confirmed for the second round. Remaining first‑round matches weren’t addressed on this episode.

📺 Programming Notes

MLW Fusion streams Thursdays at 8 PM ET on Tubi. Fightland airs next week. If Fusion doesn’t appear on the homepage, search “MLW Fusion” in the Tubi app or site.

Gordon: “The pattern is clear: MLW uses Fusion to keep its title scene busy and its factions constantly colliding.”

Women Of Wrestling (WOW)

Ed: “On the other side, WOW Superheroes continues to be built around characters, rivalries, and a very clear good‑vs‑evil presentation.”

WOW Superheroes — September 19, 2026 (syndicated TV)

Credit: wowe.com

“Nigel Zane and David McLane welcomed WOW legend, EZ Rider, to the Official WOW Podcast this week to talk wrestling, comedy, and in-ring injuries. Growing up in South Philly with six brothers, EZ was no stranger to wrasslin, rough housing, and talking trash. EZ showed up to a WOW tryout cutting harsh promos while swinging around a real baseball bat, and fit right into Thug’s motorcycle gang, Harley’s Angels. As a member of the original WOW roster, EZ feuded with “The Real Deal” Selina Majors, sending Majors to the hospital for a broken leg, and crossed paths with former WOW World Tag Team Champions Caged Heat!

EZ Rider on fighting Caged Heat for the tag team titles: “What a fight, what a match…we really took it out of each other… I remember leaving and they had to cut my jeans off ‘cause my knee had blown up…anything could’ve happened…we both fight dirty.”

EZ Rider on Selina Majors breaking her finger: “She hit me with a chair and broke my pinky. She took the chair from me…I’m a street fighter, when I feel a chair coming at me, my brain goes a different direction”

David McLane went on to tell a story about the first ever all female professional wrestling pay-per-view, WOW Unleashed. After the event had concluded, he expected his business partner, Jeanie Buss, to have left the building and gone home. To his surprise, McLane went backstage and found Buss, the LA Laker’s part owner, talking to EZ Rider and Charlie Davidson at one in the morning! Jeanie Buss regards that memory as the moment she truly saw all that women’s wrestling could be, launching her historic partnership with David McLane that keeps WOW: Women Of Wrestling on household televisions across the world to this day.

EZ Rider on Jeanie Buss stepping into an on-camera roll for WOW’s season 5: “I think it’s amazing, I think it’s’ great…[Buss] is the only female who has an NBA title…perfect for WOW: Women Of Wrestling…it’s incredible”

David and Nigel dive into EZ Rider’s extensive comedy career, highlighting her shows with fellow comedian, Andrew Dice Clay. David shared a story about preparing to see EZ perform in Vegas on his birthday, and eating an unsuspecting brownie in his hotel room, only to find out too late that it was a 300mg marajuana brownie! McLane struggled through the next several hours, but shook off his daze when EZ Rider took time out of her show to shout out David for his birthday. David stood up in the crowd, soaked in the applause, but has sworn off pot ever since.”

Gordon: “WOW’s strength is clarity—every character has a lane, every match has a story, and the weekly show keeps those threads moving.”

News & rumors around MLW and WOW

Ed: “Let’s tie these promotions into the wider conversation.”

  • MLW: Talk continues about MLW’s role as a bridge between indie and TV—how it gives wrestlers a chance to work longer matches with storylines while still feeling like a touring independent. Rumors often swirl about which MLW names might be on the radar for AEW, WWE, or Japan.
  • WOW: WOW’s chatter tends to focus on visibility—syndication deals, streaming options, and how the promotion can keep expanding its audience while staying true to its superhero branding.

Gordon: “Both companies are fighting for space in a crowded ecosystem—MLW with its hybrid fight feel, WOW with its character‑driven women’s roster.”

Closing segment — Everything Indy Wrestling (Facebook group)

Ed: “And we’ll close at the grassroots level, with the Facebook group Everything Indy Wrestling:

  • Show plugs and posters: Members regularly share flyers for upcoming indie cards—local promotions, charity shows, and regional tours.
  • Match clips and photos: Short video clips, entrance shots, and ringside photos from recent events are common, often highlighting breakout performances or wild spots.
  • Discussion threads: Fans and wrestlers alike post about standout matches, travel stories, and recommendations for promotions to watch or work with.”

The 3 most recent posts: Zoey Serrano won the Rising Stars Women’s Championship, tonight. Banger Zone Wrestling featured a table spot, but this was at Watermania so the table was floating in a swimming pool. Finally, Thrash Wrestling was in Oliver, British Columbia at the Oliver Fire Hall, featuring their champion Ginha, Zombie Killer Mentallo & Japanese star, Blankey Maho.

Gordon: “In other words, it’s the living bulletin board for the scene—where the next MLW or WOW star might be getting their reps right now.”

Ed: “From the sports desk to the smallest indie ring, that’s your snapshot of MLW, WOW, and the conversations shaping wrestling this week.”

Around the World of Pro Wrestling 9/18/26: News, TNA & Colorado Indies.

Opening from the sports desk

Ed: “Fans, welcome back to the sports desk. TNA’s been busy, with Bound For Glory creeping closer and careers literally hanging in the balance. Tonight we’re zeroing in on the latest iMPACT! from Brampton and the stories that spun out of it—but first, let’s hit the headlines that framed the week across the wider wrestling world.”

Headlines

Ilja Dragunov signs with AEW

A new report says Ilja Dragunov has already put pen to paper with AEW and is expected to start “very soon.” The deal reportedly came together after his WWE exit earlier in the summer, with Tony Khan long vocal about wanting the “Mad Dragon” on his roster. All Out and the upcoming Grand Slam show in France are both being floated as likely debut windows.

Will Ospreay reflects on his All In entrance

Ospreay called his All In 2026 entrance “one of the craziest nights of my life,” talking about walking through his own history while The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” played and his mom narrated the video package. He said seeing how many people were emotionally hit by that entrance—and hearing that even Nick Jackson cried rewatching it—made the whole thing feel like a career‑defining moment.

Indie star steps away after The Butcher’s death

Independent wrestler Ganon Jones Jr. announced he’s stepping away from wrestling after Andy “The Butcher” Williams’ tragic death during an Enjoy Wrestling show near Pittsburgh. Jones said the night was one of the worst of his life, and that his daughter’s text—“I am not letting u do wrestling anymore”—made him realize he needed to step back and be a dad first, even if he hopes the break isn’t permanent.

Gordon: “Big signings, emotional reflections, and a heartbreaking pause in one man’s career—that’s the emotional canvas behind TNA’s week.”

TNA iMPACT! — September 17, 2026 (CAA Centre, Brampton, Ontario)

Ed: “This was the last show from the Brampton tapings, and it was all about setting the table for Bound For Glory—titles, qualifiers, and Moose’s entire TNA career on the line.”

Knockouts Television Championship

M by Elegance (c) vs. Kiera Hogan (with Allie)

  • The show opened with M by Elegance defending the Knockouts TV Title against Hogan. After some early heel grandstanding, M took control, but Hogan fought back with a shotgun dropkick, corner hip attack, and running dropkick.
  • M cut off Hogan’s momentum, countering a Face the Music attempt with a Codebreaker. Hogan answered with a missile dropkick, but M dragged her off the ropes and finished her with an inverted piledriver/driver variation to retain.

Gordon: “First defense for M, and she made it count—clean win, decisive finish, and the TV belt stays put.”

X‑Division Championship Scramble Qualifier

Rich Swann vs. LJ Cleary

  • With the X‑Division Title vacant after Leon Slater cashed in Option C, Swann and Cleary fought for a spot in the six‑way scramble at Bound For Glory.
  • Cleary got to show off—springboard Canadian Destroyer, top‑rope stomp, tope con hilo—while Swann answered with superkicks, poisonrana, and high‑impact offense.
  • Swann ultimately hit a Phoenix Splash to win and secure his place in the scramble.

Ed: “That was classic X‑Division—fast, inventive, and a showcase for both guys, even with Swann moving on.”

Elijah & Ricky Sosa vs. The System

Elijah & Ricky Sosa vs. Eddie Edwards & Cedric Alexander (with Alisha Edwards)

  • The System leaned on interference and double‑teams, working over Elijah while Alisha caused trouble at ringside.
  • Sosa’s hot tag turned the tide: counters out of the Lumbar Check, German suplex, Headshot knee strike, and a springboard moonsault helped seal the win for Elijah & Sosa.
  • After the match, Edwards, Myers, and Bronson attacked, with Edwards hitting a package piledriver on Sosa and cutting a promo about how many “Ricky Sosas” he’s seen come and go. He then challenged Sosa to a singles match at Bound For Glory.

Gordon: “Big win for Elijah and Sosa, followed immediately by a reality check—Edwards turned the post‑match into a test of whether Sosa really belongs.”

Leon Slater vs. Ryan Nemeth

  • Slater, already lined up for a TNA World Title shot against Nic Nemeth at Bound For Glory via Option C, faced Ryan Nemeth here.
  • The match was a quick, energetic showcase for Slater, ending with him hitting a Swanton‑style 450 splash for the pin.
  • After the bell, Nic Nemeth attacked Slater from behind, using the title belt to leave the challenger laying, reinforcing the idea that the champion is willing to use his brother as a pawn.

Ed: “Slater keeps stacking wins, but Nic made sure the road to Bound For Glory is paved with cheap shots.”

Zoey Serrano vs. Harley Hudson

  • Serrano scored a pinfall win over Hudson with the Hell and Back knee strike.
  • Post‑match, authority figure Daria Rae ordered Serrano to keep attacking Hudson, but Indi Hartwell ran in to stop the assault, telling Daria that she and Hudson weren’t going anywhere despite the threats.

Gordon: “Short match, but it pushed the ongoing story of Daria trying to weaponize Zoey while Hartwell steps into the protector role.”

Moose’s Career on the Line

Moose vs. Frankie Kazarian (with Avary Styles)

  • The main event carried the stipulation: if Kazarian won, Moose’s TNA career would be over.
  • Kazarian cut a heartfelt promo earlier in the night, thanking Moose for carrying TNA and saying he’d miss him, framing the match as the “final chapter” of Moose’s run.
  • In the match itself, both men leaned on big strikes and finishers. Moose ultimately hit two huge Spears to score the pin and keep his career alive.
  • Afterward, Moose slid a chair into the ring, placed Kazarian’s crown in the center, and smashed it—symbolically ending Kaz’s “king” persona and reasserting himself as the franchise.

Ed: “Whatever you think of Moose, that finish was a statement: he’s not leaving, and he’s not sharing the throne.”

Other TNA notes from the week

  • Backstage threads:
    • Gia Miller’s interview with Leon Slater framed his Bound For Glory path clearly: he respects Nic Nemeth, but resents being tested via Ryan.
    • Mila Moore and John Skyler’s ongoing “almost‑romance” continued, with Skyler trying to check on her after the Tasha Steelz brawl and getting unintentionally brushed off again.
  • The Righteous vs. BDE & Swann:
    • Vincent and company cut a vignette accusing BDE of choosing comfort over growth, challenging BDE and Swann to a match where they can pick the stipulation—another Bound For Glory‑adjacent story brewing.

Gordon: “Taken together, it’s a classic TNA build: X‑Division chaos, Knockouts spotlight, tag feuds, and a world title program built around respect turning sour.”

Independent wrestling in Colorado

Ed: “Let’s close by zooming out from TV and looking at the grassroots—independent wrestling in Colorado.”

Before we dive into Dynamite and the fallout heading into All Out, let’s start with the stories everyone’s been talking about.”

📰 Headlines

Swerve Strickland on New Level’s theme song

Swerve revealed that New Level’s entrance theme—now one of AEW’s most recognizable tracks—was approved just 24 hours before All In. He said the group wanted something that felt “alive, loud, and unmistakably theirs,” and the last‑minute approval added to the adrenaline of debuting it on such a massive stage.

Jeff Jarrett wants to work in CMLL

Jarrett expressed interest in becoming a semi‑regular presence in CMLL, praising the promotion’s tradition and its connection to AEW. He said he’d love to bring his “global outlaw” persona to Arena México and mix it up with luchadores on their home turf.

Matt Hardy on the death of Andy “The Butcher” Williams

Hardy spoke emotionally about The Butcher’s passing, calling him “a gentle powerhouse” and “one of the most genuine men in the locker room.” He said AEW’s tribute show captured the spirit of a man who gave everything to wrestling and music, and that the loss is still being felt across the industry.

Gordon: “Three stories, three different angles—presentation, ambition, and grief. That’s the backdrop for AEW’s week.”

🟦 AEW — Sports Desk Rundown

We’ll look at the September 16 Dynamite from Norfolk, Virginia.

🔵 AEW Dynamite — September 16, 2026 (Chartway Arena, Norfolk)

Christian Cage, Adam Copeland, Darby Allin & Steven Borden vs. FTR, Kyle Fletcher & Kevin Knight

Winners: Christian, Copeland, Allin & Steven Borden

Ed: “This was the Steven Borden showcase. Eight men in the ring, but the kid stole the spotlight.”

The match opened with Christian and Allin arguing over who would start, Steven hit a gorgeous dropkick on Dax, and chaos broke out before the commercial. The heels isolated Allin, but Steven’s hot tag flipped the momentum. Christian nailed Dax with a hidden chair shot, Cope followed with a Spear, and Allin/Steven sealed it with a Scorpion Death Drop–Coffin Drop combo.

Gordon: “AEW is clearly positioning Steven as a future pillar. The crowd’s already there.”

Chris Jericho vs. Nick Wayne

Winner: Chris Jericho

Wayne pushed the pace, hitting a Destroyer off the steps and a Senton Atomico on the apron. Jericho answered with a Codebreaker and Walls attempt. The finish came when Jericho ripped Wayne’s puka necklace, distracting him long enough to score a leg‑trap pin.

Post‑match, Wayne snapped—kicking the ropes into Jericho’s groin and blasting him with chair shots.

Ed: “Jericho’s working hard to elevate Wayne, and the kid’s fire after the bell showed he’s ready for the next step.”

Hangman Page, Bandido & Brody King vs. The Conglomeration (Cassidy, Strong, O’Reilly)

Winners: Hangman, Bandido & King — earn Trios Title shot

This was nonstop motion. Hangman’s hot tag sequence was electric, King threw bodies like furniture, and Bandido hit a delayed military press cutter. Strong saved Orange from King but walked straight into a Buckshot Lariat.

Gordon: “Hangman and Brodido are locked in. This trios title match at All Out is going to be a war.”

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Myles Hawkins

Winner: Ciampa

A quick squash—running knee, pin, done. The real story was after the bell: Swerve and New Level were ambushed by Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona, setting up a heated confrontation for next week.

Jamie Hayter vs. Lena Kross

Winner: Lena Kross

Kross jumped Hayter before the bell, powerbombed her on the apron, and dominated early. Hayter rallied with a flying clothesline and German suplex, but Megan Bayne’s distraction allowed Kross to use a crowbar and hit a Jackhammer for the win.

Ed: “Dirty finish aside, Kross looked like a future singles champion.”

Will Ospreay, Andrade El Ídolo & Francesco Akira vs. The Death Riders (Moxley, Pac, Gabe Kidd)

Winners: Moxley, Pac & Kidd — submission

Akira shined early with wild dives, but the Death Riders isolated him. Ospreay and Andrade turned the tide until Yuta’s distraction let Mox hit a King Kong Lariat. Kidd dropped Ospreay with a Gotch Piledriver, Pac spiked Andrade with a Poisonrana, and Mox finished Akira with multiple Paradigm Shifts and a Bulldog Choke.

Post‑match, The Dogs attacked Andrade, and Ospreay saved Akira with Hidden Blades.

Gordon: “That main event was molten. Ospreay vs. Mox is the centerpiece of All Out, but Andrade’s looming challenge feels just as big.”

🟦 AEW News & Rumors

Collision fallout

The tribute to Andy “The Butcher” Williams continues to resonate. AEW aired another video package on Dynamite honoring his legacy.

International Championship picture

Ciampa publicly declared he wants Okada next. Okada mocked him backstage, only to get dropped by Ciampa later in the night.

National Championship

Andrade will defend against Daniel Garcia on Collision.

🟦 Sports Desk Closing Segment — Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn (ECW Living Dangerously, March 21, 1999)

Ed: “Before we wrap, let’s revisit a classic—one of the matches that defined an era.”

Gordon: “RVD vs. Jerry Lynn at Living Dangerously wasn’t just a match—it was a statement. Two men pushing the limits of what ECW’s hybrid style could be.”

The bout blended:

  • lightning‑fast counters
  • top‑rope innovation
  • RVD’s unorthodox athleticism
  • Lynn’s crisp technical precision

The finish saw RVD retain the TV Title, but the real legacy was how both men elevated each other. It became the template for ECW’s athletic identity and remains one of the most replayed matches from the promotion’s history.

Ed: “It was the kind of match that made fans rethink what wrestling could look like. And it’s a perfect way to close out a week where AEW’s own roster is pushing boundaries in much the same spirit.”

Around the World of Pro Wrestling 9/16/26: News, CMLL, NWA & The Lapsed Fan.

Ed: “Fans, welcome back to the sports desk — pull up a chair, settle in, and get comfortable, because we’ve got a full slate of action to walk through today. From Mexico City’s high‑flying chaos to the NWA’s wild nights in Philadelphia, this week has been packed, and we’re going to break down every twist, every title shake‑up, and every storyline that kept the wrestling world buzzing.”

“Before we dive into CMLL and the NWA, let’s start with the headlines that set the tone for the entire week — stories that reached across promotions and had everybody talking.”

Headlines

Maya World health update From the sports desk, Ed: Word coming out of AEW is that former TBS Champion Maya World recently underwent a medical procedure and is off the road for now. The expectation inside the company is optimistic—there’s no firm timetable, but the hope is she’ll be back sooner rather than later. She’d just wrapped a strong run, including winning the TBS title from Hikaru Shida at Redemption and later dropping it to CMLL’s Persephone at All In London after interference from Britt Baker. Her last bout before the procedure was a six‑woman tag on the September 9 “Dynamite: Rebel Heart” special, teaming with Hyan and Thunder Rosa against Baker, Shida, and Persephone.

Tony Schiavone honors Bill Dundee Gordon: Over at the microphone stand, Tony Schiavone took time on his “What Happened When” show to salute the late Bill Dundee, who passed away at 82. Tony praised Dundee as one of wrestling’s sharpest minds, crediting him with helping shape Memphis’ Continental Wrestling Association, building teams like the Midnight Express and Rock ’n’ Roll Express, and contributing behind the scenes to classic angles involving Jerry Lawler—possibly even the famous Andy Kaufman program. He framed Dundee as a quiet architect of many Crockett-era stories that fans still talk about today.

Kota Ibushi to undergo surgery Ed: And in a tough but defiant note, Kota Ibushi has revealed he’s heading back into the hospital for another surgery on the femur he broke during an AEW Collision match with Josh Alexander nearly a year ago. Doctors plan to remove the current hardware and replace it with stronger plates after determining the existing ones weren’t holding up. Ibushi admitted he’s exhausted by repeated surgeries, but he flatly refused to accept that this injury will end his career, vowing to return to AEW even if the timetable now stretches beyond his earlier hope of late 2026.

National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) – Week in review

Ed: Now, let’s bring it back to the sports desk and talk about the NWA, where the 78‑branded shows and Powerrr episodes have leaned heavily into character‑driven stipulations and title matches.

NWA Powerrr – September 12, 2026 (2300 Arena, Philadelphia – NWA 78 episode)

Gordon: This particular Powerrr from the 2300 Arena had three big tent‑poles: a women’s TV title match, a National Championship ladder match, and a Knights of the Round Table main event.

NWA World Women’s TV Championship

Gisele Shaw (c, with Lou D’Angeli) vs. “The Supreme” Sirena Veil (with Paige Collett)

  • Stipulation: TV title rules, 6:05 time limit.
  • Story: Shaw came out aggressive, controlling much of the early going. Veil, backed by Paige Collett, used strikes and submissions—at one point cinching in an armbar and later hitting a modified backstabber—to nearly steal it. Interference from Collett and chaos on the floor escalated as the clock wound down.
  • Finish: In the closing seconds, Veil finally landed her Bloodbath finisher and scored the pin with just one second left on the clock, capturing the Women’s TV Championship in dramatic fashion.

Ed: And even with the loss, the show made clear that “The Quintessential Diva” Gisele Shaw has signed officially with the NWA, so her story in the promotion is just beginning.

Ladder match for the NWA National Championship

Bryan Idol (c) vs. Mike Mondo vs. Slade

  • Setup: Idol defended against former champion Mike Mondo and his own tag partner Slade, with Aron Stevens lurking at ringside and stirring trouble.
  • Match notes:
    • Mondo and Slade initially worked together, using the ladder as a weapon to punish Idol, including shots to the midsection and a bulldog onto the steel.
    • Mondo jawed with Idol’s mother at ringside, drawing heat and adding personal stakes.
    • As the match progressed, the alliance between Mondo and Slade frayed—each tried to climb the ladder, pulling the other down, echoing the “failure to communicate” line the recap referenced.
    • Idol fought back with cutters and suplexes, while Mondo attempted a diving headbutt from the ladder and missed badly when Idol rolled away.
  • Finish: Stevens tried to insert himself with his loaded glove, but was ultimately knocked off the ladder. Idol managed to outlast both challengers and retrieve the belt, retaining the National Championship and keeping his “Looks That Kill” moniker intact.

Gordon: That ladder match doubled as a character piece—Stevens manipulating his own stable, Mondo antagonizing the crowd, and Idol surviving a two‑on‑one scenario.

Knights of the Round Table – “Round Tables” match

King Trevor Murdoch The First & The Royal Court (Squire Franks, Sir Michael the Duke of Knox, Jacob the Necromancer) vs. The Federation of Champions (The Slimeballz, Buster, Lockjaw Drake)

  • Stipulation: To win, you must send an opponent through a round table—rectangular tables don’t count, which became a running gag throughout the match.
  • Early action:
    • Lockjaw Drake and Squire Franks opened, with Aron Stevens interfering early and promptly being ejected by the referee.
    • The Slimeballz put Franks through a rectangular table, which did not end the match, prompting the announcers to explain the geometry to the Philly crowd.
    • Jacob the Necromancer tried “casting spells” only to be cut off and slammed through another non‑round table by Buster.
  • Mid‑match chaos:
    • Backstage‑style brawling spilled to the ramp, with King Trevor and Sir Michael delivering high/low attacks and smashing Drake through yet another rectangular table.
    • Aron Stevens reappeared in Templar knight gear, sneaking back into the fray.
    • Chantz hit a dive onto the pile on the floor.
    • May Valentine made a surprise return in a white dress, attacking Stevens and paying off the jilted‑bride storyline.
  • Finish:
    • Duke of Knox drove the Slimeballz through a table in the corner.
    • Jacob used powder to blind Buster, Franks followed with a chair shot, and King Trevor added another chair strike, sending Buster crashing off the structure onto an actual round table.
    • With Buster going through the correct table shape, the Royal Court claimed victory.

Ed: The visual of the 2300 Arena rising for King Trevor’s entrance—full regalia, fire and ice motif—gave the whole thing a modern territory flavor, mixing comedy, spectacle, and violence.

Promos and angles on the episode

Gordon: Between matches, Powerrr set up future NWA 78 bouts:

  • Pastor C‑Lo & Pretty Boy Smooth: Pastor C‑Lo promised that Pretty Boy Smooth would win next week’s five‑man match to become number one contender to the NWA Worlds Title.
  • Heath’s debut: Heath announced his arrival in the NWA and his intention to chase the Ten Pounds of Gold, citing his need to provide for his kids. He’s slated for that same five‑man contender’s match against Pretty Boy Smooth, JR Kratos, Jack Talos, and Effy.
  • Jack Talos & Daisy Kill: Talos, with Daisy Kill, brushed off his brutal dog collar match with Eric Smalls as “just having a good time,” then looked ahead to the contender’s bout.
  • Mortons vs. Alex Taylor: Ricky and Kerry Morton proposed a Texas Death Match against Alex Taylor, with Ricky aiming to settle scores after Taylor turned on them. Taylor later responded alongside NWA World Champion “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason, saying he’s ready for the Mortons and that “2 Hot to Trot” will bring the fight.
  • Country Gentlemen & Joe Cazana on The Carson Drake Experience: The NWA World Tag Team Champions discussed their European tour and upcoming defense against former champions Blunt Force Trauma, promising to do it “by the book,” echoing Papa Joe Cazana’s catchphrase.

Ed: All told, that Powerrr episode functioned as both payoff—title changes, big gimmick match—and a launchpad for next week’s NWA 78 card.

News and rumors involving CMLL and NWA talent

Ed: Let’s tie the bow on the week’s chatter around these rosters and their orbit.

  • CMLL’s women’s scene intersecting AEW: Persephone, CMLL World Women’s Champion, recently defeated Maya World for the AEW TBS Title at All In London, and then appeared again in the six‑woman tag on September 9. That cross‑promotion keeps CMLL’s women’s division in the international spotlight and reinforces the relationship between AEW and CMLL.
  • International guests in CMLL: Names like PAC, Mike Bailey, Zack Sabre Jr., Maika, Starlight Kid, and Mei Seira appearing in CMLL show ongoing collaboration with Japanese and global promotions, fueling speculation about future tournaments or joint cards.
  • NWA talent influx: Heath’s arrival, Gisele Shaw’s signing, and the continued use of characters like Pastor C‑Lo, Pretty Boy Smooth, Jack Talos, and Effy suggest the NWA is leaning into a deep ensemble cast, with rumors pointing to more outside names being eyed as it rolls on.

Gordon: In short, both companies are using partnerships and character‑heavy booking to stay visible in a crowded landscape.

The Lapsed Fan podcast – this week’s note

Ed: Before we close the sports desk, let’s talk audio—specifically, The Lapsed Fan. https://thelapsedfan.com

Gordon: The Lapsed Fan continues its sprawling “Complete Hulk Hogan” journey, currently deep into the early‑’80s chapters. Recent episodes clock in at marathon lengths—four, five, even six hours—digging into Hogan’s 1980–1982 run, territory stops, and major stadium shows like “Showdown at Shea,” plus interviews with figures such as Stan Hansen, Tony Atlas, Larry Zbyszko, and others who crossed paths with Hogan in that era.

Ed: For fans of CMLL, NWA, and the broader history, it’s the kind of long‑form, detail‑heavy storytelling that pairs nicely with a week of ladder matches, round tables, and international trios. When the bell rings on this week, you’ve got plenty of tape to roll and plenty of history to revisit.

Around the World of Pro Wrestling 9/15/26: NJPW, OVW & Ema Maishima.

Headlines — sports desk top stories

Ed: “Let’s set the stage with three stories that have been hanging over the whole scene this week.”

  • Would Mandy Rose come back? Mandy Rose said she’d consider returning to a major promotion if the circumstances were right—money, creative control, and respect for how her exit went down. She didn’t slam the door on WWE or AEW, but made it clear she won’t come back just to be filler.
  • William Regal praises an AEW star Regal called PAC the best wrestler to come out of England since the 1980s, praising his conditioning, versatility, and ability to make every match feel like a fight rather than a routine.
  • Jeff Cobb shocked by WWE Cobb talked about his brief time around WWE and said some parts of the system were “shocking”—the level of control, the pace, and how little room there was to improvise compared to Japan. It reinforced why he feels more at home in NJPW’s environment.

Gordon: “Questions about returns, a veteran’s seal of approval, and a heavyweight’s culture shock—that’s the backdrop for NJPW and OVW at the sports desk.”

Event Notes
The nine matches totaled 1 hour 25 minutes 4 seconds of in-ring action

Multiple title changes occurred, including the OVW Women’s Title and OVW Media Title

Gordon: “OVW’s week was busy—multiple shows and a Rush division that feels like it’s constantly in motion.”

NJPW & OVW — news and rumors

Ed: “Beyond the bell, here’s the chatter tying these two worlds together.”

  • NJPW: Ongoing talk about how Jeff Cobb’s comments highlight the difference between WWE’s tightly controlled environment and New Japan’s more wrestler‑driven style.
  • OVW: Buzz around Shalonce Royal’s title win and Brendan Balling’s Rush Title capture, with fans wondering how long each reign will last given OVW’s fast‑moving booking.

Gordon: “One promotion is a global touring machine, the other a regional workhorse—but both are dealing with questions about identity, opportunity, and how much room talent has to breathe.”

Closing segment — Ema Maishima

Ed: “Let’s finish with someone whose name has been popping up more and more: Ema Maishima.”

Ema Maishima is a Japanese performer who straddles two worlds—known as a voice actress in anime and as a pro wrestler under the Stardom banner, where she’s introduced as Emma Ushima. She brings a mix of theatrical presence and athletic movement, fitting naturally into Stardom’s emphasis on character and in‑ring pace.

Gordon: “She’s a reminder that modern wrestling isn’t just about holds and strikes—it’s about personality, crossover appeal, and the ability to connect in multiple mediums at once.”

Ed: “And that’s your snapshot from the sports desk—NJPW’s touring engine, OVW’s title shake‑ups, the questions around Mandy, the praise for PAC, the shock felt by Cobb, and a spotlight on Ema Maishima as one of the faces of where this business is heading.”

Around the World of Pro Wrestling 9/14/26: News, ROH, Stardom, wXw, NOAH, AJPW & Power Rankings

Headlines — sports desk top stories

Ed: “Let’s kick things off with three stories that have been hanging over the whole wrestling landscape this week.”

  • Ilja Dragunov’s next move After his WWE exit, Ilja has been weighing options and talking with multiple promotions. Reports say AEW has shown interest, but he’s also been linked to international companies that value hard‑hitting, tournament‑style wrestling. He’s made it clear he wants creative freedom and opponents who can match his intensity, wherever he lands.
  • AEW Collision ratings The latest Collision numbers show a modest dip from the previous week but still a solid hold in the core demo. The show remains steady rather than explosive—strong enough to justify its slot, but not yet a breakout ratings force. The takeaway is that AEW has a reliable Saturday anchor, even if it’s not surging.
  • AEW Continental Classic date AEW announced the 2026 Continental Classic will kick off on November 18 in Denver, Colorado. The round‑robin format returns, and early chatter suggests another stacked field of heavy hitters and workhorses, making it one of the company’s tent‑pole projects for the winter.

Gordon: “Future moves, current numbers, and a tournament date circled on the calendar—that’s the backdrop for everything else we’re about to walk through at the sports desk.”

Ring of Honor (ROH)

Ed: “Let’s start with ROH, where Honor Club continues to be the home base for long‑form wrestling and layered cards.”

⭐ ROH HonorClub #183

(Aired September 10, 2026)

The episode opened on a somber note with a tribute graphic honoring the late Andy “The Butcher” Williams. After the moment of remembrance, the show moved straight into the ring.

Action Andretti (c) vs. Adam Priest — ROH World TV Championship

Winner: Action Andretti (retains)

Andretti tried to steal one right out of the handshake with a quick roll‑up, but Priest wasn’t having it. The match became a tug‑of‑war between Andretti’s flashy bursts and Priest’s grounded power. Priest nearly swung momentum his way with an avalanche rana and a string of dragon screws into a half‑crab, but Andretti reversed an O’Connor Roll and grabbed the ropes to secure the three‑count.

A crafty, borderline‑questionable win for the champion.

Lacey Lane & Janai Kai vs. Maya World & Hyan

Winners: Maya World & Hyan

Kai opened the match with rapid‑fire kicks that dropped Hyan early. Lane and World followed with slick counters and pin attempts before the match broke down into fast tags and double‑team sequences.

Kai’s judo throws and suplexes gave her team a strong stretch, but a miscommunication sent Lane crashing into Kai, allowing World and Hyan to hit their elevated complete shot for the victory.

Backstage — Deonna Purrazzo & Emi Sakura

Emi Sakura approached Purrazzo with respect for her technical style and proposed teaming together. Purrazzo agreed, forming a new pairing built around pure wrestling.

Il Cartello Grillo vs. Serpentico & The Colons

Winners: Serpentico & The Colons

Serpentico’s speed gave his team the early edge, and the Colons rotated in with crisp tandem offense. Il Cartello Grillo briefly took control with heavy strikes and a spinning back suplex, but once Orlando Colon got the hot tag, the pace shifted.

After a flurry of dives and rapid exchanges, Orlando and Eddie Colon sealed the win with a superplex followed by a splash.

MxM Collection Interview

Mansoor and Mason Madden derailed the segment immediately, praising Ian Riccaboni’s commentary while teasing Caprice Coleman. The duo posed, joked, and generally turned the interview into comedic chaos. Caprice tried to keep things professional — unsuccessfully.

Rocky Romero vs. Ortiz

Winner: Rocky Romero

Romero tried to slow Ortiz down with cheap shots and arm work, but Ortiz kept firing back with chops, slams, and a suicide dive. The match turned when Trent Beretta blindsided Ortiz with a chair while the referee was distracted.

Rocky capitalized, hitting a running Shiranui to steal the win.

AR Fox & Soleil vs. Jacked Josh & Body Bundy

Winners: AR Fox & Soleil

Fox and Soleil blitzed their opponents from the opening bell with synchronized offense. Josh and Bundy briefly halted the momentum with a double‑team uranage, but Fox re‑entered with high‑octane counters.

A double back‑handspring wheelbarrow cutter ended the match decisively. Fox and Soleil were later announced to face Bandido & Komander next week.

Backstage — Action Andretti Promo

Andretti bragged about beating one of the best technical wrestlers in the world “with honor,” calling himself the most dangerous man in ROH and inviting challengers.

Jacked Jameson vs. Matt Menard

Winner: Matt Menard

Jameson ignored the handshake and spent the early minutes showing off strength rather than pressing offense. Menard weathered the power moves, countered a missed senton, and hit a Russian legsweep followed by a DDT for the win.

Next Week Announcement

Red Velvet will defend the ROH Women’s World TV Title against Remi Reade.

The Infantry vs. Alex Zayne & Mance Warner (“PsychoSauce”)

Winners: The Infantry

Warner and Zayne worked surprisingly well together, mixing brawling and aerial offense. Zayne’s springboard corkscrew moonsault nearly turned the tide, but The Infantry’s teamwork proved too sharp.

A double‑team Go2Sleep followed by “Two to the Head” put Zayne down for the three‑count.

Backstage — The Kingdom & Sparta AI

The Kingdom blamed Top Flight for costing them the tag titles at Death Before Dishonor. Their solution: hire Bryan Keith as a “bounty hunter” to help take down SkyFlight.

Steph De Lander vs. Zayda Steel

Winner: Zayda Steel

De Lander dominated early with size and strength, tossing Steel around ringside and hitting a fallaway slam. Steel fought back with strikes, a tornado DDT, and a tilt‑a‑whirl counter.

De Lander nearly won with a spear, but Steel slipped out of a fireman’s carry and rolled her up for a surprise victory.

Bang Bang Gang (Juice Robinson & The Gunns) vs. The Premier Athletes (Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari & BEEF)

Winners: Bang Bang Gang

The match swung between comedy and chaos — roaring contests, fast tags, and plenty of taunting. The Premier Athletes isolated Juice for a long stretch, but once Austin Gunn got the tag, the pace exploded.

After a barrage of finishers from both sides, Colten Gunn hit 3:10 to Yuma on BEEF to close the show.

Show Notes

  • Total runtime: 1 hour, 49 minutes
  • Total ring time: 1 hour, 12 minutes

Closing — sports desk sign‑off

Ed: “And that brings us to the end of another whirlwind week across the wrestling world — from ROH’s technical showcases to Stardom’s faction battles, wXw’s tournament announcements, NOAH’s heavyweight grit, and All Japan’s steady march toward its next big title shake‑up. Every promotion moved a piece on the board, every roster added a wrinkle, and every match told its own story.”

Gordon: “What stands out is how different these companies are, yet how clearly each one knows its identity. ROH leans into precision, Stardom thrives on speed and structure, wXw keeps building its tournament backbone, NOAH stays anchored in impact, and AJPW continues blending its past with its present. Five lanes, five philosophies — all pushing forward at once.”

Around the World of Pro Wrestling 9/13/26: News, AEW Collision & Punk, McMahon and Cena in 2011.

Headlines — sports desk top stories

Ed: “Let’s open with the stories that have been echoing around the wrestling world while AEW keeps rolling.”

  • Dexter Lumis remembers Bray Wyatt Dexter Lumis talked about how deeply Bray Wyatt influenced him, describing late‑night creative talks, shared ideas about horror‑tinged storytelling, and how Bray encouraged him to lean into silence and body language instead of long promos. He framed their connection as one of the most meaningful relationships of his career.
  • Joe Gacy says Wyatt Sicks ideas were never used Joe Gacy revealed that the Wyatt Sicks group had “a ton” of creative pitches—alternate entrances, long‑form vignettes, and character beats—that never made it to TV. He said the group felt like it was “just getting started” when everything stopped, and he still hopes some of those concepts can live again somewhere down the line.
  • Will Ospreay on the aftermath of winning the AEW World Title Ospreay described the moments right after his AEW World Title win at All In 2026: collapsing backstage, barely able to process the noise, then immediately being pulled into media, production meetings, and the reality that the “dream moment” comes with a heavy workload. He said the belt felt less like a trophy and more like a responsibility the second he walked through the curtain.

Gordon: “Legacy, unrealized ideas, and the weight of a world title—that’s the backdrop for AEW’s week at the sports desk.”

AEW

Ed: “From Rebel Heart on Dynamite to a tribute‑heavy Collision, AEW’s week has been about emotion, charity, and keeping the machine moving while everyone’s still grieving.”

The main televised event in this window was AEW Collision on September 12, 2026, a show built around honoring Andy “The Butcher” Williams and raising money in his name.

AEW Collision — September 12, 2026

MassMutual Center, Springfield, Massachusetts — Tribute to Andy “The Butcher” Williams

Gordon: “This was less a standard wrestling show and more a memorial card with wrestling wrapped around it.”

Opening tribute

The broadcast began with an in‑memoriam graphic and a ten‑bell salute for Andy Williams. Wrestlers, staff, and friends—including Brody King, Colt Cabana, Justin Roberts, Penelope Ford, Kip Sabian and others—shared memories of him as a musician, a colleague, and a gentle presence backstage.

AEW Continental Championship Eliminator

Jon Moxley vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey Winner: Jon Moxley

The match opened with deliberate mat wrestling—Bailey chaining takedowns and headlocks, Moxley slowing things down with joint manipulation and grinding holds. Bailey repeatedly attacked Moxley’s leg with dragon screws and aerial knee drops, but Moxley kept dragging him into chokes and armbars. In the closing stretch, Bailey’s high‑risk offense left just enough of an opening for Moxley to catch him and finish with the Paradigm Shift, securing the eliminator win just before the time limit.

The Rascalz vs. Aaron Solo, Nick Comoroto & Griff Garrison

Winners: The Rascalz

Fast‑paced trios action. The Rascalz leaned on speed and double‑team sequences, eventually hitting the Hot Fire Flame to score the pin and keep their momentum rolling.

Queen Aminata vs. Mina Shirakawa

Winner: Queen Aminata

With Mercedes Moné on commentary, Aminata and Shirakawa traded strikes and counters, Mina trying to dictate pace while Aminata kept finding small openings. The finish came via a tight inside cradle, giving Aminata a statement win with the champion watching from the desk.

Jay White vs. Adam Priest

Winner: Jay White

Priest tried to drag White into a grind‑it‑out fight, but “Switchblade” systematically picked him apart—targeting openings, cutting off comebacks, and finally landing the Bladerunner for the pin. The match served as a showcase for White’s precision more than a back‑and‑forth epic.

PAC & The Dogs vs. Bang Bang Gang

PAC, Gabe Kidd, David Finlay & Clark Connors vs. Juice Robinson, Ace Austin, Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn Winners: PAC & The Dogs

Backstage, Moxley lit a fire under The Dogs, challenging their killer instinct and demanding they give everything to the paying crowd. In the match, that pep talk showed—Connors, Kidd, and Finlay wrestled with more urgency, PAC anchored the chaos, and a big spear in the closing sequence sealed the win over the Bang Bang Gang.

Conglomeration vs. Lethal Twist

Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly vs. Blake Christian, Lee Johnson & Jay Lethal Winners: Conglomeration

With New Level (Austin Creed & Kofi) on commentary, this trios bout mixed Cassidy’s laid‑back timing, Strong’s intensity, and O’Reilly’s grappling against Lethal’s veteran savvy and his partners’ athleticism. The Conglomeration ultimately hit End of Heartache to close it out, reinforcing their place in the trios hierarchy.

The Butcher Battle Royal

Winner: Daniel Garcia (last eliminates Josh Alexander)

The main event was the Andy Williams Memorial Battle Royal, with the winner earning $100,000 to donate to a charity of his choice in Williams’ name. The field included Daniel Garcia, Josh Alexander, Claudio Castagnoli, Lance Archer, The Beast Mortos, Top Flight, AR Fox, Ortiz, Eddie Kingston, Wheeler Yuta and others.

The match blended heavy‑hitter exchanges with emotional beats—Garcia leaving a guitar and “RIP Andy” sign in the ring, wrestlers and commentators gathering on the ramp as the crowd chanted “Andy.” Garcia outlasted Alexander in the final sequence, winning the Battle Royal and closing the show on a note that felt more like a farewell than a standard victory lap.

Ed: “Collision wasn’t about angles first—it was about saying goodbye, and letting the wrestling serve that goodbye.”

AEW news & rumors — past week

Gordon: “Outside the ropes, AEW’s week kept circling back to three things: grief, opportunity, and the future of its top stars.”

  • Jericho vs. Nick Wayne build: Nick Wayne cut a promo referencing advice from Jericho and framing himself as the “hottest new prospect” Jericho feels threatened by, setting up their first‑time match on Dynamite.
  • Mercedes Moné’s ambitions: Moné used commentary and interviews to push a new nickname and talk about wanting to break a two‑time WWE champion’s historic record, signaling that her AEW run is aimed at long‑term dominance, not just a quick title stint.
  • Death Riders & Dogs dynamic: Moxley’s pep talk to The Dogs—and his insistence that he doesn’t “do favors” and only shows what hard work looks like—kept the Death Riders’ aura strong while nudging The Dogs toward a more ruthless presentation.

Ed: “So between tribute shows, rising prospects, and a world champion talking openly about the weight of his role, AEW’s week at the sports desk felt heavy but purposeful.”

Closing segment — CM Punk, Vince McMahon & John Cena promo (July 11, 2011 Raw)

Gordon: “We wanted to finish on that famous Raw segment, and it still stands as one of the sharpest pieces of TV the sport has produced.”

On July 11, 2011, Punk walked into Raw as the man with one foot out the door—contract expiring, title shot looming, and a microphone that had already changed the landscape. Vince tried to reassert control, offering Punk a new deal and demanding loyalty. Cena stood as the company’s standard‑bearer, caught between defending the title and defending the brand.

Punk’s promo—framed around “say goodbye to CM Punk”—turned the moment into a live negotiation in front of the audience. He questioned Vince’s motives, challenged Cena’s role as corporate face, and made the upcoming Money in the Bank match feel like a referendum on the entire system, not just a title defense.

PROMO

Credit: Cagematch.net

Vince McMahon: “Thank you! Thank you very much! I’m Vince McMahon, dammit, let’s hear it! Those of you who actually think I will join the CM Punk Kiss-My-Ass-Club, I hope you’re not gonna be disappointed, that’s defintely not gonna happen. If imagine myself on my hands and knees and someone drops their trousers and shows me the big moon, and… I could just never ever do anythig like that. But the primary aspect of this whole thing is rather something that there was supposed to be some sort of public negotiation. Well if John Cena last week publicly stewing out of the mouth or if CM Punk wanna have a public negotiation… contract should not be negotiated, with all due respect, in public. But nonetheless, that’s what CM Pbunk… CM Punk – I can’t even pronounce his name. He is a punk, but nonetheless, come out, CM Punk! I wonder what CM stands for… they got the punk part, right? Come on, let’s get this over with. I’ve got a plane to catch.

I think you’ll find everything in this contract Punk, your attorneys… this is a sky low low seat here. You’ll find everything here in order, your attorneys have been through it numerous times, including that little provision that you want your own collector’s cup. Nonetheless, sign it.”

CM Punk: “Look at you! Ladies and gentlemen, the chairman of the board, Vincent Kennedy McMahon.”

Vince McMahon: “Yeah, let’s hear it for Vince!”

CM Punk: “What a maneuver! Look at you, you’re really gonna go through it, aren’t you? For somebody who’s always been so pro-John Cena I figured you come out wearing one of his ridiculous red t-shirts and had the arm bands on, but looking at you now, I can tell you have zero faith in John Cena come this sunday, which I clearly don’t blame you…”

Vince McMahon: “My faith or lack of faith in John Cena has nothing to do with this. I simply want you to sign the contract for the right reasons. First of all to make you a rich man, which you already are, and secondly, I really couldn’t live with myself if, in fact, somehow, on the last day of your existitng contract… somehow you’re able to win the championship from John Cena and walk out of Chicago with my title. I could not live with myself. That’s why we have the contract. That’s why we have all these provisions in here, just like you asked for, right? I mean, is this right, Phil? I can call you Phil, right? I mean, come on, hey… hey, come on, you’ve went open this sucker up, let’s open it up, okay?”

CM Punk: “By all means. You wanna have fun? Let’s have fun…”

Vince McMahon: “Hey come on, I’ve got everything in here you wanted…”

CM Punk: “…’cause my lawyers looked over your contract, Vince and frankly it just wasn’t up to par, so I had them draw up a new one I have it right here. My signature is already on it. All you gotta do is sign it. I do think you should know about a couple of new perks I’ve added to it. You say you don’t think contractual things shouldn’t happen in public? Let’s ask the WWE Universe. You people want this to go down in public? You wanna hear a couple of new perks?”

Vince McMahon: “Don’t push me!”

CM Punk: “He said ‘Don’t push me’. Did you already look at this? Because this is actually provision #1. That I get to push you. Vince, I’ll push you all I want. Vince, I’ll kick you in the nuts and you’ll smile at me and like it, and show me some respect. Because if you don’t, I’ll find the nearest paper shredder, I’ll throw this contract in there and Sunday I’ll leave with your WWE championship.

Provison #1: For a superstar such as myself first class travel is not good enough. I want my own jet. And I don’t want YOUR jet. YOUR jet smells. Don’t try to pawn that thing off me. I want my OWN jet. #1: My face is on everything. I want my face on the Titantron, I want my face on these turnbuckles. I want cups, posters, spoons, knives, forks, shoes, socks… I want everything with my face on it, number being I want you to bring back the WWE ice cream bars. Look at that, I just made you a million dollars at ice cream sales. I want WWE films to immedialtely start production on ‘CM Punk – the Movie’. You can call it ‘The Chaperone 2’, except minorly funny and entertaining and successful. And one last thing, the main event WrestleMania being John Cena against your buddy Dwayne – that’s The Rock for nobody who watches bad Disney movies – you can still have that little fantasy, but the match I will compete in at WrestleMania will be the main event. Those are just a few of many new perks that my lawyers have added to the contract.

The last thing that this contract states is that you apologize to me. I know, Vince McMahon doesn’t apologize, right? But you will apologize to me for suspending me last week. You will apologize… hell I just gonna be honest. You’re not just apologizing to me, you’re apologizing to these people for being one of the biggest hypocrites I have ever seen in my entire life. As far as your anti-bullying-campaign goes, you are one of the biggest bullies I have ever met in my entire life and you will apologize!

I have had friends, very talented friends work for this company and being unceremoniously fired…”

Vince McMahon: “THEY DESERVED IT!”

CM Punk: “They deserved it? They deserved it?? Why? Because you don’t know what makes a superstar in 2011, you don’t know what these people want? You wanna punish people for actually liking professional wrestling guys like Colt Cabana, guys like Luke Gallows? Huh? You will apologize to me for them, because they can’t be here right now, and they can’t stand up to you, and they can’t make their voice heard. I am CM Punk, and I am the voice of the voiceless! And you will apologize and you will like it!”

Vince McMahon: “Hey look… look. Calm down! Let’s just get this signed, and just calm down, okay? Let us be gentlemen here, okay? Let’s be gentlemen.”

CM Punk: “Gentlemen?”

Vince McMahon: “Gentlemen. Let’s be business men and…”

CM Punk: “Should we be gentlemen or should we apologize? Vince, sign the contract and apologize and spare your company any further embarassement.”

Vince McMahon: “Let’s just get this over with, okay? And I mean… Come on, I’ve just eaten a crap sandwich out of your… [‘We want ice cream’-Chants.] I DON’T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU PEOPLE WANT!”

CM Punk: “THAT’S THE PROBLEM, VINCE! That’s the problem. You don’t give a damn. And my problem is I care too much. Am I a bad guy? Absolutely! I don’t wear a white hat, but I’m damn sure I’m in touch with these people and I think right now Boston wants hear to an apology.”

Vince McMahon: “I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry. I… I said I’m sorry.”

CM Punk: What?

Vince McMahon: “I said… I said I’m sorry.”

CM Punk: “What? If there was ever an appropriate time… what?”

Vince McMahon: “I APOLOGIZE, YOU SON OF A BITCH!”

CM Punk: “What’s better than winning the world title three times? Vince McMahon just apologized to CM Punk! Yeah, pick it up and sign it before the stock drops some more. Come on!”

John Cena: “Fine speech. Listen to ’em man, they love you. And they’ll love you in your hometown of Chicago. And that’s the night you walk out on each and every one of them. You wanna sign that? You wanna give in to a terrorist? I’m not gonna tell you what to do. Last week I asked you for a match. A match that you earned, and a match that you wanna see, and I think that’s we’re standing up for. But right now, you guys are like a bunch of kids, a bunch of spoiled brats. I want this, nah I want that. I have this, nah I have that. I like this, I like that. Lokk at you, look at you. I get it. You feel mistreated in work and you hate this guy. I hate him, too. You know how many days I walk into a WWE locker room and I want to rip his face off with my bare hands, and make it into a cute little floor mat, you know, something classy, you’d get a bad breath in beyond, and then go out and step in crap, and take my crappy shoes and wipe ’em on that floor mat that I just made out of his face, and my dog come and pee on that floor mat that crap’s just been wiped on and flush it down the toilet. That’s how much I hate this guy. But I show up for work every day. Because if we have an disagreement, when we don’t see eye to eye, if I don’t show up, sure, it short-sides him, but these people paid a lot of good money to be here tonight. And they are the ones who really take it on the chin, these people right here, these people watching at home. You talk about hypocrites – Punk, you are the biggest hypocrite of them all. You will ask these folks if they want an apology. You will ask these folks to be the voice of the voiceless… and then you will leave. There is a man who stepped in this ring not too long ago and said ‘Finally, he was home’ and the he was never leaving again. Easy, dragonbreath! My God, what you’ve been eating, Big Foot’s diaper? My point is: I know you’re not that guy. But here you are, making a ridiculous list of demands, demands that he cannot meet, because all you wanna do is take this and walk out. Because you’re strongest attitude is also your biggest flaw. You are CM Punk, you beat your own drum, and I admire that. But in the path of doing things you wanna do, you’ve lost sight of everything.”

CM Punk: “Oh I’ll stop you right there. I’m not gonna have you sit here and belittle me that I’ve lost sight? I’ve lost sight of things, John? The reason I say I’m gonna take that walk out is because I don’t fit a certain mold, because I am the underdog. And that’s exactly what you’ve lost sight of. Earlier in this ring, you’ve mentioned great wrestlers like Eddie Guerrero and you said that they used to look at you and think that the kid couldn’t hang. And now you stand here and look at me as the kid that can’t hang. John, I was hanging off of your gangster car at WrestleMania 22 as it rolled down to Chicago, Illinois, and I stood there in a suit, looking as ridicilous as that man looks right now in a suit, holding a phony tommy gun, and I said to myself someday I’m not gonna be standing out there, watching you in the ring. I was gonna be standing in the ring, watching you go down to CM Punk. And now here we are in your hometown of Boston, and now next week, we’ll be back in my hometown, Chicago, Illinois, and this… this is the part, where I talk them into the building. See, YOU are the one that’s lost sight, and I apologize for raising my voice because I’m not that guy. But when you stand here and tell me that I’ve lost sight, when you, the ten time champion who stand for hustle, loyalty and respect, who from Boston, Massachusetts lives and breathes this red colors, the same colors as your beloved Red Sox, who also portrait themselves as the underdog. I’m sure just like the Bruins portrait themselves as the underdog, just like the Patriots think they’re the underdog.”

John Cena: “Easy, buddy…”

CM Punk: “Hey, how about the Celtics? Are they the underdogs, too? Here is what you’ve lost sight of, John, and I’m really happy that your father and your wife are sitting in the front row so they can hear it…”

John Cena: “Easy… That’s the last time I’m gonna tell you. Easy…”

CM Punk: “What you’ve lost sight of is what you are. And what you are, is what you hate. You are the ten time WWE champion. You’re the man. Ladies and gentlemen, the champ is here. You, like the Red Sox, like Boston, are no longer the underdog. You’re a dynasty! You are what you hate! You have become the New York Yankees!

Cut it off. Turn the music off ’cause I have something to say, and I’m positive that everybody here wants to hear it and everybody sitting at home as their DVR’S fired up, because they wanna hear it. I’m glad you just punched me in the face, John. I’m glad it went down this way, because it hit me like a bolt of lightning exactly why I no longer wanna be here, why I wanna leave. It’s because I’m tired of this. I’m tired of you. I’m just tired. So ladies and gentlemen of the WWE Universe, Vince, John… Sunday night, say goodbye to the WWE title. Say goodbye to John Cena. And say goodbye to CM Punk! I’m gonna be the best somewhere else.”

Ed: “That segment is why people still talk about promos like they’re as important as matches. It was a contract dispute, a character study, and a company‑wide pressure test all rolled into one—and it’s the kind of moment AEW, and every promotion, quietly hopes to capture in its own way.”

Gordon: “And that wraps the week from the sports desk—Collision’s farewell to The Butcher, the champion’s burden on Ospreay’s shoulders, and a reminder from Punk, Vince, and Cena of how powerful a live microphone can be.”
