đŸŽ™ïž Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru

Ed: “And before we wrap, let’s talk about the show that never shies away from a strong opinion.”

Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru continues its weekly format of answering fan questions, reviewing classic matches, and giving unfiltered takes on modern wrestling. The latest episodes include discussions on:

  • Booking philosophies
  • AEW’s current direction
  • Classic territory stories
  • Listener mailbag segments

You can find the show here: 👉 https://www.jimcornette.com/podcasts.html

Gordon: “Whether you agree with him or not, Cornette’s Drive Thru remains one of the most listened‑to wrestling podcasts in the world.”

Ed: “So from Mexico City to Philadelphia, from reality TV to celebrations of life, from title defenses to triple‑threat chaos — that’s your full rundown from the sports desk.”

Around the World of Pro Wrestling 9/5/26: MLW, WOW & Everything Indy.

Sports desk weekly rundown — MLW, WOW & Everything Indy Wrestling

Major League Wrestling — from August 29 to September 5, 2026

Ed: “Fans, MLW has been busy—title defenses, divisions shifting, and a major new signing that could reshape the women’s roster.”

Gordon: “Two key Fusion episodes frame the week: August 29 and September 5. Let’s walk through them.”

MLW Fusion — August 29, 2026

This Fusion was a tight, story‑heavy show built around three matches and a lot of angle development.

Key matches & results:

  • Shotzi Blackheart (c) vs. Jazzy Yang — MLW Women’s Championship (non‑title in some listings, but presented as champ vs. challenger)
    • Shotzi retained after a hard‑fought bout, finishing with a diving senton.
    • Yang looked strong, showing striking and submission work, but couldn’t close the deal.
    • Post‑match, Lady Frost confronted Shotzi, staking her claim as a future challenger.
  • Brick Savage vs. Terry “Flip” Sequoyah
    • Brick Savage debuted in dominant fashion, overwhelming Sequoyah and winning decisively.
    • After the match, Josef Samael threw a fireball into the face of an EMT trying to help Sequoyah, reinforcing CONTRA’s menace.
  • Matt Riddle vs. Bishop Dyer
    • Riddle scored the win (clean pin in some reports, DQ in others, but the key is Riddle standing tall in the result column).
    • After the bell, Donovan Dijak attacked Riddle.
    • Killer Kross made the save, only to be chokeslammed by Josh Bishop.
    • Kross responded by declaring that next week’s MLW World Heavyweight Title match against Bishop would be No Holds Barred.

Ed: “That’s classic MLW—three matches, but a whole lot of connective tissue for the weeks ahead.”

MLW Fusion #211 — September 5, 2026

This taped episode from The Signal in Chattanooga aired on YouTube and centered on the promised No Holds Barred world title match.

Full results:

  • Non‑Title Match:Lady Frost def. Shotzi
    • Frost scored a big win over the reigning women’s champion in a non‑title bout, strengthening her case as a top contender.
  • MLW Middleweight Championship:Templario (c) def. Diego Hill
    • Templario retained the Middleweight Title, continuing his run as a key figure in MLW’s cross‑border, high‑flyer division.
  • MLW World Heavyweight Championship — No Holds Barred:Killer Kross (c) def. Josh Bishop
    • Kross successfully defended the title in a violent, weapons‑legal environment, answering Bishop’s chokeslam from the previous week with a decisive victory.

Gordon: “Kross walked in with a point to prove and walked out still champion. Bishop may have forced the stipulation, but he couldn’t force a title change.”

MLW news & rumors — Tessa Blanchard signs

The biggest headline of the week: Tessa Blanchard officially signed with MLW, with her debut set for Fightland on September 12, 2026 in Charleston, South Carolina.

  • She’s positioning herself as the “franchise” of the women’s division, explicitly targeting Shotzi Blackheart and the MLW Women’s World Championship.
  • MLW has been airing vignettes teasing her arrival—diamonds, pressure imagery, and “coming soon” tags.
  • She will continue working in CMLL under MLW’s partnership, keeping Mexico City as a home base.
  • Her signing follows a release from TNA earlier in the year, and she brings prior world title history with her.

Ed: “Shotzi’s already dealing with Lady Frost. Now she’s got Tessa looming over the division. That’s a crowded top tier.”

Women Of Wrestling (WOW)

Ed: “So for WOW, the story right now is continuity: Santana Garrett on top, Monsters And Metal holding the trios belts, and Penelope Pink, The Enlightened & Paola Mayfield lining up as a key challenger.”

Credit: wowe.com

“THIS WEEKEND ON WOW – WOMEN OF WRESTLING

Tag Team Fortunes

From the very first WOW World Tag Team Champions to the recent crowning of Best 4 Business, kick your feet back and enjoy the epic highs and lows of WOW’s tag team division.”

Everything Indy Wrestling — Facebook group & site

Gordon: “Now let’s talk about where a lot of this conversation actually lives day‑to‑day: online communities.”

You’ve got the Facebook group “Everything Indy Wrestling”, which serves as a hub for fans tracking independent promotions, results, posters, and talent across the U.S. and beyond.

Inside the group, you’ll typically find:

  • Show posters and cards from local and regional promotions.
  • Results threads for indie events—often same‑night or next‑day.
  • Discussion on rising talent, including wrestlers who later show up in MLW, WOW, TNA, AEW, or CMLL.
  • Links to streams, ticket info, and merch for smaller promotions that don’t have big marketing budgets.

Ed: “Groups like that are the connective tissue between the big shows we talk about at the sports desk and the smaller rings where tomorrow’s names are grinding it out.”

Sports desk closing

Gordon: “So, since August 29, MLW has tightened its world title picture, elevated Lady Frost, and added Tessa Blanchard to an already deep women’s roster. WOW continues to lean on Santana Garrett, Best 4 Business & Monsters And Metal, and a stacked challenger pool.”

Ed: “And while the cameras roll for Fusion and Superheroes, the conversation keeps going in places like Everything Indy Wrestling—where fans track the indie scene that feeds all of this. Different stages, same passion. That’s the week from the sports desk.”

Around the World of Pro Wrestling 8/5/26: CMLL. NWA. Poll.

đŸŽ™ïž Sports desk intro

Ed: “Tonight at the sports desk, we’re heading from Mexico City to the American South—tracking how CMLL and the National Wrestling Alliance have been moving the pieces on their boards since late July. Two very different traditions, one shared goal: keep the rings hot and the stories moving.”

Gordon: “And when you look closely, you see classic formulas still working—trios warfare in Mexico, studio‑style wrestling in the States—each promotion leaning on what made it famous while nudging things forward.”

đŸ‡ČđŸ‡œ Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL)

đŸ”„ Overall direction

Ed: “CMLL has stayed true to its heartbeat—Arena MĂ©xico as the hub, trios matches as the engine, and a mix of veterans and rising names filling out the cards. The past week has been about keeping champions visible and rivalries simmering rather than blowing everything up with sudden shocks.”

Gordon: “Titles like the CMLL World Welterweight, Middleweight, and Tag belts remain central, but much of the drama is built through non‑title trios and apuestas teases—hair and mask threats that may pay off down the line.”

📰 CMLL news & rumors (past week)

  • Champions staying busy: Gordon: “Word out of Mexico is that most singles champions have been working regular non‑title matches to keep their profiles high without overusing title defenses.”
  • Apuestas speculation: Ed: “Fans are buzzing about which rivalry might be next to get the mask‑or‑hair treatment—several mid‑card feuds have escalated with more post‑match brawls and challenges.”
  • International talent: Gordon: “There’s ongoing chatter about more foreign wrestlers cycling through CMLL cards later in the year, continuing the trend of international exchanges.”

đŸ‡ș🇾 National Wrestling Alliance (NWA)

🩅 Overall direction

Ed: “The NWA has leaned hard into its studio‑show roots—Powerrr‑style episodes built around promos, short matches, and a clear hierarchy of champions and contenders. The past week has focused on tightening the Worlds Heavyweight picture and giving the women’s and tag divisions more defined lanes.”

Gordon: “Titles like the NWA Worlds Heavyweight, National, Television, Tag, and Women’s belts remain the spine of the product, with most episodes structured to keep at least two of those divisions in motion.”

🎬 Sports desk closing

Ed: “So from the high balconies of Arena MĂ©xico to the studio lights of the NWA, the past week has been about steady hands—promotions leaning on what they do best and letting the stories breathe.”

Gordon: “And that’s the kind of week the sports desk appreciates. Not every show needs a shock—sometimes the most telling thing is how consistently the pieces are moved. The question now is simple: who made you mark out.”

Around the World of Pro Wrestling 7/29/26: CMLL, NWA & Poll.

đŸŽ™ïž Sports‑Desk Intro

Ed: “Fans, we’ve got a double‑barreled blast of action this week — Mexico City firing on all cylinders with CMLL’s high‑velocity lucha, and the NWA tightening the screws in that classic studio setting. Two promotions, two very different rhythms, but both hitting with real impact.”

Gordon: “And what a contrast it is — aerial artistry on one side of the continent, hard‑nosed grit on the other. A most compelling week for anyone tracking the global pulse of professional wrestling.”

📰 CMLL News & Rumors (July 22–29)

  • Komander & MĂĄscara Dorada’s advancement fuels speculation about a high‑flying Leyenda de Plata final
  • Thunder Rosa’s looming title challenge remains a major talking point
  • Flip Gordon’s integration continues to strengthen CMLL’s international appeal

đŸŽ™ïž Ed & Gordon on CMLL

Ed: “CMLL feels like a league where every match has playoff implications — one weekend run from the Dinos, one big cibernĂ©tico from Dorada, and suddenly the whole board shifts.”

Gordon: “A most intricate tapestry — trios chemistry, generational rivalries, and tournament prestige all intersecting in compelling fashion.”

đŸ“ș NWA Powerrr — July 27, 2026 (Comet TV)

⭐ Tag Team Turbulence

The Immortals (Odinson & Kratos) looked poised to steamroll Jack Valor & Eddie Grayson — until the Country Gentlemen inserted themselves. Papa Joe’s infamous book shot turned the tide, giving Valor & Grayson a shock upset and throwing the entire tag title chase into chaos.

⭐ A King Ascends

Trevor Murdoch’s transformation into King Trevor the First was in full theatrical force. After flattening “Boom Boom” Groom with bruising offense, he unveiled his royal court: Tyler Franks and Michael Knox. The NWA now has a new heel power structure to orbit around.

⭐ Women’s Division Spotlight

Haley J and Gina Sais Quoi clashed in a personality‑driven bout — swagger vs. mystique. Haley took the win, keeping her firmly in the conversation for future title opportunities.

⭐ Main Event

The Wrestling Machines (Mike Mondo & Slade) (w/ Aron Stevens) defeated Silas Mason & Bryan Idol

đŸŽ™ïž Ed & Gordon on NWA

Ed: “The NWA is playing a long game — not just wins and losses, but positioning, alliances, and the kind of interference that rewrites a whole division.”

Gordon: “A most traditional yet evolving landscape — studio wrestling at its core, but layered with faction intrigue and championship volatility.”

📊 Poll Section

đŸŽ™ïž Sports‑Desk Outro

Ed: “Fans, that wraps a week where the action never took a breath — from Mexico’s lightning‑quick exchanges to the NWA’s hard‑edged studio fights, every promotion showed exactly what makes this sport pulse.”

Gordon: “And the beauty of it all is the contrast — soaring athleticism on one stage, gritty strategy on another. A most compelling reminder that professional wrestling thrives because it offers something for every kind of fan.”

Ed: “Stay tuned, stay loud, and stay ready — because if this week proved anything, it’s that the next big moment is already lining up.”

“NJPW Sold to TV Asahi and CyberAgent; Bushiroad Retains STARDOM

May 27, 2026

The most intriguing element of this transaction is the inclusion of CyberAgent and its implications for the Japanese wrestling landscape.
CyberAgent is a massive Japanese entertainment and tech conglomerate that entered the wrestling space in September 2017 by purchasing DDT Pro-Wrestling.
In January 2020, CyberAgent acquired a struggling Pro Wrestling NOAH, subsequently merging NOAH, DDT, and Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling (TJPW) under a single subsidiary called CyberFight.
CyberFight operates the Wrestle Universe streaming service, which hosts its core brands alongside partner promotions like Marigold, Marvelous, Sendai Girls, Michinoku Pro, and others.
CyberAgent’s 46% acquisition immediately raises questions regarding the future of NJPW World. While it might seem logical to migrate NJPW’s live events and tape library to Wrestle Universe, TV Asahi operates NJPW World and owns the other 46% of the company.
How these two media giants navigate distribution, and how closely NJPW will collaborate with the CyberFight umbrella promotions like NOAH and DDT, remain major question marks.
Notably, Bushiroad is keeping the booming Joshi promotion, STARDOM, which was completely excluded from the transaction.
Bushiroad purchased STARDOM in 2019 and initially placed it under the NJPW corporate umbrella.
In hindsight, a sign of today’s corporate restructuring came in April, when STARDOM was returned to being a wholly owned subsidiary of Bushiroad.
We will have much more analysis on this breaking story as the lead topic on this Thursday’s episode of The Flagship—streaming live Thursday night for our $10 tier subscribers!”

The May 23, 2026 NWA Powerrr took place at The OC Theatre in Forney, Texas, featuring a double main event for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and the Crockett Cup finals.

Commentary & On-Screen Talent

  • Commentators: Joe Galli, Tim Storm, and The Pope
  • Interviewer: Kyle Davis
  • Ring Announcer: Kyle Davis

Match Results

1. Kiss My Boots Match – Eric Smalls defeated Daisy Kill
Kill started strong with a boot and mounted offense, but Smalls countered with an electric chair slam, inchworm, and bulldog to win. Per the stipulation, Kill kissed Smalls’ boots, then Smalls retaliated with a shot to Kill’s crotch. Gordon: “A most resourceful victory — he capitalized on a single opening.”

2. NWA World Heavyweight Championship – No Limits, Falls Count Anywhere Match – Silas Mason (c) defeated Bryan Idol
A chaotic, high-impact match saw both men exchanging chair shots, table impacts, and near falls. Idol nearly won with a double underhook suplex, but Mason countered and hit the Thrillride. The match ended with Mason retaining his title. Ed: “Mason is holding that championship like it’s the deed to his house!”

3. Crockett Cup 2026 Final Match – The Titans of Calamity (Ren Ayabe & Talos) defeated The Country Gentlemen (AJ Cazana & KC Cazana) (w/ Joe Cazana)
The Gentlemen initially dominated, but the Titans countered with a series of strikes and interference from Joe Cazana. The finish came after a brawl outside the ring, with Ayabe hitting the decisive blow. Ed: “That’s what you call blue‑collar wrestling — no frills, just fists!”

Notable Moments

  • The Crockett Cup finals saw The Titans of Calamity claim the Cup, with AJ Cazana promising a Disneyland trip afterward.
  • Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson commented on their loss, with The Slimeballz offering unsolicited advice.
  • The World Title match was praised for its high drama and near falls, with some calling it one of the year’s top matches.

This episode closed the 2026 Crockett Cup and set up future storylines, including Mason’s potential feud with Carson Drake.

NWA Worlds Champion Silas Mason Names Mick Foley and Kurt Angle as Career-Changing Influences

“Mason was asked about his early inspirations and who influenced him when he was younger. That’s when he pointed directly to Mick Foley as one of the first wrestlers who made a lasting impression on him. Mason explained that Foley stood out to him because he didn’t look like a traditional superstar, yet still found a way to connect with fans in a powerful way.

“It was Mick Foley when I was a kid. Fat guy, sweat pants, made everybody laugh, that whole thing. The Rock, Mick Foley, that whole era, but Mick Foley was one of those guys. It was never so much the hardcore stuff. It was the sympathy and could make you laugh and make you care about him. He could go from making you laugh to making you think it was that serious, like a heart attack.”

Mason didn’t stop there when discussing the people who shaped his path. He also credited Kurt Angle with pushing him to take wrestling seriously at a competitive level, something that directly impacted his life outside the ring. While reflecting on that decision, Mason explained how Angle’s success motivated him to join amateur wrestling — a move that paid off in a major way. “I joined the wrestling team because of Kurt Angle. I have two state wrestling championships because of that guy. So it would be Mick Foley and Kurt Angle.”“

📰 CMLL NEWS & RUMORS

Credit: thecubsfan.com

“Mascara Dorada and Xelhua appeared at the Los Angeles Dodgers Mexican Heritage Night. I can’t tell if the emojis there are referencing the earlier announcement or are meant to tease more news.

CMLL held a CMLL versus Press soccer game on Tuesday, to promote their summer of even more Arena Mexico shows marketed towards World Cup visitors. Team CMLL lost 3-1, with Raider scoring the only goal for the luchadors. This is the only victory the press has had in 2026. The press team notably included Paul Aguilar of Fox Sports. This is Aguilar’s retirement gig; the CMLL guys were facing someone who was on the 2010 and 2014 Mexican World Cup team. Aguilar had an assist and a goal. Team CMLL included Angel de Oro (goalie, as his father famously played), Niebla Roja, Audaz, Robin, Raider, Calavera Jr. I, Capitan Suicida, Neon, Vaquero Jr., Dragon de Fuego, as well as Alexis Salazar and Jorge Livan from the press department. La Tijera has about 12 minutes of footage if you want to dig it. As an American, I’m unqualified to conduct any in-depth analysis of soccer skills. Cuauhtemoc mayor Alessandra Rojo de la Vega was also on hand.

When he was working in Arena Naucalpan recently, Neon recalled that he had actually participated in a tryout for IWRG, did not pass, and was now returning as a star. Neon – then Prisamatic – wrestled Alom in the 2021 Tryout competition. He received eight of fifteen possible points from judges Eterno, Black Terry, and Heddi Karaoui (who is critical of him for wrestling too much like a Mistico clone.) Mas Lucha’s Vic Martz was in the chat when the show aired and wrote that they should’ve picked Prismatic (and also Alom), so point for him. The Tryout match aired in February 2021, and Neon debuted in July 2022, so he had to wait nearly 18 months more. He also would’ve had to wait much longer had he won the IWRG tryout and signed a contract with them.”

Latest signings

Credit: ewrestlingnews.com

“According to a report from Fightful Select, indie wrestler Hayden Backlund has signed with the NWA after spending the last several months competing for the promotion. During that run, Backlund appeared in a National Title match and also competed in this year’s Crockett Cup. He had previously been a regular on NWA Exodus events as well.

Backlund, who hails from the Buffalo area, also gained early-career experience in AEW, where he worked several matches against talent including Best Friends and Miro, among others.”

“According to a report from Fightful Select, 19-year-old independent wrestler Liviyah has signed with the National Wrestling Alliance. While additional details regarding the deal are still emerging, the signing reportedly became official within the last few months.

Despite her young age, Liviyah has already built an impressive resume on the independent scene, competing for over two and a half years and amassing close to 200 matches. She has also become a familiar face at Wrestling Open events.

Liviyah previously appeared at the NWA TV tapings in February, where she challenged for both the NWA World Women’s Championship and the NWA Women’s Television Championship.”

📰 MLW NEWS & RUMORS

✔ Doc Gallows talks about Festus

Credit: WrestleZone

““I looked into it to make sure that I was safe. And I talked to my trademark lawyer about it, so we’re in the process of that now, just in case. But I hadn’t thought about that in a long time,” Gallows explained. “Machine Gun and I have been going everywhere. [And at] all of these shows and meet and greets and conventions that you do, we were shocked by the amount of people who would ask about Festus.

“Because I didn’t think there was a huge demand to see Festus. I kinda put him—he goes in a certain gimmick category, if you will, without bringing up any other names. But the interest really, really seemed to be there.””

✔ Brick Savage signs multi year deal.

Credit: f4online.com

“The 37-year-old Brick Savage was recently seen defeating Mad Dog Connelly at GCW Effy’s Big Gay Brunch 11 on April 18, 2026. At the WWE WrestleMania 42 weekend, he also wrestled in the Clusterf**k match at GCW Joey Janela’s Spring Break. A regular name on the indies, he has also frequently wrestled for promotions such as Revolver, MPX, New Texas Pro, and many more. He is also currently the Mat War Pro Super Openweight Champion.”

✔ Krule releases statement on Berwyn confrontation

Credit: WrestlingHeadlines.com

““Two weeks ago, I prepared a statement to address this situation. Once I had handled some business that needed to be addressed before releasing, I read what I had written. In doing so I felt how disingenuous my original written statement was. Thus, I decided to stop, reassess, and be more open to the public. I am speaking to all of you now not as a character, but as myself.

“During the event, there was an altercation with a fan, whom I had had several incidents with throughout the night, including physically shoving myself during my entrance and another fan who was trying to purchase merchandise after the show. In this moment, I reacted and threw a punch. During that incident, I sustained an injury to my side that once I had returned to the locker room was discovered by staff at Berwyn. I do not know how this injury occurred, only that it occurred during the incident. Staff and wrestlers helped bandage me and tend to the wound. I left and was taken to take a shower and driven to the airport, as I had an early flight the next morning for another booking. I awoke in the airport to calls from my family in tears, “Did you get stabbed?” I had no idea what was happening, then I saw that story had been put out on social media. To be absolutely clear, I never wanted nor asked that this story be represented as fact nor made public. I was contacted by law enforcement, and I fully cooperated with that process. I was asked if I wanted to pursue an investigation | declined. I told the detective I did not believe I was stabbed, but I had probably fallen on something during the altercation.

“I regret not addressing this immediately and allowing misinformation and assumptions to circulate without clarification. I apologize for not negating the claim to the public. I pride myself in blurring the lines of reality, but I understand this was not one those times.

“Now comes the part of all of this I have struggled with most, throwing a punch. I have been angry, remorseful, and every emotion in-between. However, it finally hit me like a brick wall, I was in the wrong. Regardless of the situation and the things that occurred, it was my job to be a professional. In hindsight, many decisions made differently could have changed the situation’s outcome. I could have addressed the situation to management when I knew he was a problem. I could have made the decision not to go sell merch after the show to avoid potential conflict. I could have been a professional and I failed. Thus, I accept full responsibility for everything that occurred. I failed as professional. I have always taken pride in being professional and being a team player with every person I have worked for in my career. I failed and made a bad decision.

“To the wrestlers, fans, and promotions that have been affected by the aftermath of the situation and my bad decision, no words can change what has been done but I do apologize. I have spent more time over these last few weeks hurting emotionally because I hurt each and every one of you. I am sorry. Majority of you don’t know me, the person, only as what I portray as a character, but this incident is not a reflection of who 1 am. I care about professional wrestling more than I’ve shown through this situation. I will reflect that going forward.””

✔ Chattanooga Debut is Tonight
